The Simpsons, produced by Matt Groening, is an Animated Sitcom of America created for the Fox Broadcast Corporation. It is a mocking parody of the American middle class standard of living epitomized by its ostensible family that consists of Marge, Homer, Lisa, Maggie and Brat. The show is placed in the imaginary city of Springfield, and it caricatures a lot of features of the human condition, and also the American society, culture and the television.

The family was imagined by Matt Groening curtly before a field for a sequence of the animated shorts along with producer, James L. Brooks. Matt formed a dysfunctional family. He named all the characters subsequent to the members of his personal folks, substituting Brat for his personal name. It became an element of The Tracey Ullman Show in the year 1987. Following a 3-season run, the blueprint was urbanized into a 30 minutes prime time TV show and became a very early hit for the Fox. It became the very initial Fox series to attain a position at Top 30 ranking in a season of 1992-1993. Since its introduction on December 17, in the year 1989, the Simpsons show has televised 420 episodes and 20th season will begin airing in the fall of 2008. The Simpsons film, a feature-length movie, was released worldwide on July 26-27, in the year 2007. It has got an awesome response and has roughly earned US$526.2 million globally till this date.

The Simpsons has gathered a lot of awards on its name ever since it released as a show series, which includes 26 Annie Awards, a Peabody Award and 23 Emmy Awards. On December 31, in the year 1999, The Simpsons was named as the twentieth century’s finest TV series by Time Magazine. On January 14, in the year 2000, the series was honored a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This series is the longest dashing American sitcom and the animated program. The aggravated mumble by Homer, “D oh” has been accepted into a lot of English glossary, whereas The Simpsons has affected loads of adult-oriented vivacious and animated sitcoms.

The [[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles]] ([[TMNT]]) is the name of a team of four turtle mutants. They are trained by Master Splinter to make them skilled ninja warriors. They fight the criminals and alien invaders in Manhattan city while residing in sewers of the city. The first comic book of TMNT was published by Mirage Studios in 1984. The first single issue comic was intended to be a parody of four comics popular in early 1980s Marvel’s Comics’ Daredevil and New Mutants, Dave Sim’s Cerebus, and Frank Miller’s Ronin. The comic had its origin in a comical sketch drawn by Kevin Eastman while having a brainstorming session with his friend Peter Laird. They used money from a tax refund along with a loan from Eastman’s uncle and published the first issue of the comic on their own in May 1984. The comic was premiered at a book convention in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Kevin and Peter named their studio “Mirage Studios” as they lacked money to make a professional art studio in the beginning of their career. The comic book was published in the form of a big magazine and the artwork was in black and white on newsprint. Only 3000 copies were printed and this led to early prints becoming a collector’s item and being traded much above at their original price.Â
Mirage published Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was a bi-monthly book and was released in alternating months with the regular Eastman and Laird book during 1987-89. The art of the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was provided by Ryan Brown and Jim Lawson. The book also helped to fill he gaps in TMNT and provide continuity to the series. Eastman and Laird could not find time to write and illustrate the monthly comic book as they had to look after merchandise being sold in international market which was in great demand after TMNT became a huge success. Due to this, several artists were roped in to work for TMNT. Due to several artists working on the series it had a disjointed look. In the first two volumes 76 issues were published.
The title was revived in June 1996 by Image Comics and the series was made more action oriented. Major changes were made to the main characters in the third volume of the series. In December 2001, Mirage Studios resumed publication of the fourth volume under the title TMNT. The series continues till issue #28 when series was put on hold for eight months by Peter so as to allow him to devote time to the movie being made on TMNT.
The main characters of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Splinter, April O’ Neil, Casey Jones, and Shredder. Leonardo is the leader of the Turtles as he has all the leadership qualities such as courage, decision taking ability. He is a devoted student of martial arts with a strong sense of honor and justice. He wears a blue mask and his weapon of choice is a pair of ninjaken. His name is an inspired from Leonardo Da Vinci. Raphael is the Turtle with an aggressive nature and is always ready for a fight. He is fierce, sarcastic and is jealous of Leonardo as in his opinion he should be the leader of the Turtles. Raphael wears a red mask and uses a pair of sai as weapon. He is named after Raphael Sanzio. Michelangelo is an easy going Turtle, who loves to read comics, eat pizza, skateboard and is an accomplished writer. He uses a pair of nunchaku as weapon and wears an orange mask. His name is inspired from Michelangelo Buonarroti. Donatello is the least violent Turtle with interest in technology. He is a scientist as well as an inventor. He wears a purple mask and his weapon is a bō staff. He is named after famous sculptor Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi. Splinter, a mutant rat, is the Turtle’s sensei and adoptive father. He learned the ninjustu from his master Hamato Yoshi. April is the human companion of the Turtles. She was a lab assistant to Baxter Stockman, a mad scientist. Casey Jones is a close ally of the Turtles and fights crime with golf clubs, baseball bats, hockey sticks etc. and wears a goalie mask so as not to reveal his identity. Shredder is a villain ninja master and is the arch rival of the Turtles. He wears a suit of armor which is covered with sharp blades.
The first movie based on the characters of the Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was released in 1990. The movie was based on the comic books and showed the story in which Splinter and the Turtles meet April and Casey. It also showed the first encounter of Turtles with Shredder and Foot Clan. The movie was directed by Steve Barron and released by New Line Cinema.
The second movie based on the Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, was released in 1991. It introduced Turtles’ human friend Keno and Shredder’s mutant henchmen Tokka and Rahzar.
The third movie in the series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, was released in 1993. In this movie the Turtles travel back in time to feudal Japan. In that era they are involved in a conflict between villagers and the Daimyo.
The fourth movie of the Turtles, titled TMNT, released on March 23, 2007. It uses fully computer-generated graphics produced Imagi Animation Studios. It was distributed by Warner Bros.

Scooby-Doo is an animated television series which premiered in 1969. The animated series was created for Hanna-Barbara Productions by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears. After having success with “The Archie Show” in 1968 Fred Silverman, in charge of CBS’s children programs, contacted Hanna and Barbara to create a show with mystery solving teenage group. The show was initially titled “Mysteries Five” and had five teenagers, all part of a rock band, rather than present four. The show has “Scooby-Doo”, a dog that can talk and four teenagers: Fred “Freddie” Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Norville “Shaggy” Rogers. The five characters of the show are referred to as “Mystery, Inc.” and solve mystery cases, most of which involve ghosts.

For transportation purpose they use a van named “Mystery Machine”. While designing the dog Takamoto, designer of the Scooby-Doo, used unconventional design by giving the dog double-chin, sloped back and bowed legs. Silverman didn’t like the name “Mysteries Five” and gave the title “Who’s S-S-Scared?” to the show. After the show was rejected by CBS executives on the grounds that it was too scary and not fit for young children, Silverman asked Ruby and Spears to rework the show and shift the basic theme to comedy than horror. Ruby and Spears did away with the rock band and paid more attention to Shaggy and the dog, then named Too Much. After listening to Frank Sinatra’s song “Strangers in the Night”, Silverman decided to rename “Too Much” as “Scooby-Doo” and the show as “Scooby-Doo, Where are You!”. CBS executives approved the show when it was shown to them in its revised form.

“Scooby-Doo, Where are You!” debuted on CBS when its first episode “What a Night for a Knight” was aired on September 13, 1969. Don Messick voiced Scooby-Doo, Casey Kasem voiced Shaggy, Frank Welker voiced Fred, Nicole Jaffe voiced Velma and Stefanianna Christopherson voiced Daphne. In the first run, the teenage group was shown as trying to solve mysteries behind ghosts and monsters. Inadvertently Scooby and Shaggy would run into the monster and would be chased by the monster.

Due to the immense popularity and success of “Scooby-Doo, Where are You!” it was renewed for a second season in 1970. The program was called “The New Scooby-Doo movies” when its duration was doubled to one full hour. It now featured a guest star who used to help the teenagers solve mysteries. Batman & Robin, Don Knotts, The Three Stooges and others appeared on the show. After 1974 reruns of the show were telecast till 1976 when the show moved to ABC.

While on ABC, the format of the show was changed almost every year. When Scooby-Doo’s ratings began to slip Scrappy-Doo, Scooby’s small nephew, was added to the show and the show was titled “Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo”. When the formula worked, Fred, Daphne and Velma were dropped from the show in 1980 and the show’s format was changed. Instead of having one half hour mystery the show had three different mysteries each seven minute long. When the how’s format changed again in 1983, Daphne made a comeback to the show, now titled “The All-New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo show”. The new format of the show now had two eleven minute adventures and ran for two seasons. The second season was again renamed as “The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries” and occasionally featured Velma and Fred.

In 1985 “The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo” debuted with Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy and two new characters Flim-Flam and Vincent Van Ghoul. Vincent van was based on and voiced by Vincent Price. In this series all of them travel around the world to capture the thirteen most terrifying ghosts and ghouls of the world. After the last episode of this series aired in 1986 no new episode was aired for next two years though reruns of previous episodes were telecast. The cast of Scooby-Doo is shown as high school students in “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo”. The show which debuted in 1988 on ABC was a success and it ran till 1991.

“What’s New, Scooby-Doo” was aired on Kids WB in 2002 after seeing the success of reruns of Scooby-Doo series on Cartoon Network. In the new series the teenage gang was updated so as to make them in sync with the modern time. The show was produced at Warner Bros. Television Animations as Hanna-Barbara was bought by Warner Bros. in 2001. The show ran for three seasons and was replaced by “Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!” in September 2006. In the present series Shaggy, who has inherited money along with a mansion from an uncle, along with Scooby are the central characters with Fred, Velma and Daphne making an occasional appearance to help them.

Mr. Bean

Mr. Bean is a British television comedy television series which starred Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean. Along with Atkinson, Robin Driscoll, Richard Curtis and Ben Elton are the writers of Mr. Bean. On January 1, 1990 the first episode was broadcast while the final episode titled “Goodnight, Mr. Bean” was broadcast on 31 October, 1995. After seeing the huge success of Mr. Bean, an animated cartoon series was made in 2002 with the same title. In the animated series also very little actual dialogues are used. In the animated series the number of supporting characters is more than in the original television series and includes Mrs. Wicket, Mr. Bean’s landlady, and Mrs. Wicket’s one eyed cat, Scrapper. The voice for animated Bean was provided by Atkinson himself.

Mr. Bean’s first name is never revealed, when once asked for his first name Bean replies Mister! Mr. Bean is shown as a boy trapped in a grown man’s body who gets into hilarious situations due to his own actions. Mr. Bean is shown as living in London always wearing a tweed jacket and a red tie. Mr. Bean is shown as an alien falling from the sky in the animated version. Mr. Bean’s best friend is his teddy bear, simply named Teddy. The teddy is shown to be inanimate while Mr. Bean behaves as if the teddy were for real. In several episodes the bear with button eyes ends up being destroyed either partially only to be revived intact in later episodes.

In the first episode of Mr. Bean, he had an orange 1969 Morris Mini which was crashed at the end of first episode itself. From then on a 1977 model of Mini with lime green color is his car of choice. Irma Gobb is the girlfriend of Mr. Bean but Mr. Bean thinks of Irma more as a friend than his love interest.

“Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie” was released in 1997 and the movie became a commercial success by grossing more than $ 230 million globally. The movie was directed by Mel Smith. Unlike in the sitcom and the animated series where Mr. Bean occupies the centre stage and the plot revolves around him only, in the movie Mr. Bean is shown living with a family in California. On March 2007, second movie of Bean, “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”, was released in UK with Atkinson again in the lead role. It has been directed by Steve Bendelack.

Shrimati Ji was created in 1968 by great Indian cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma and published by Diamond Comics. Shrimati Ji (it is a word to address married Indian women respectfully) is shown as belonging to a middle class family having two kids. Due to the middle class connection people easily associate with her as majority of population belongs to this class. This cartoon series is published in Manorama, Punjab Kesari, and Sandhya Times etc. along with being published in magazine/newspapers comics of Shrimati Ji have also been compiled by Diamond Comics.
One of the most common themes in this short is that of spiraling price rise which is very relevant in today’s world of rising inflation. The couple, Kishore and Sheela, braves all sorts of situations with a smile on their face. As a normal house wife Sheela likes hosting kitty parties, shopping and visiting beauty parlour to look good.

Super Commando Dhruva

Super Commando Dhruva is an Indian comic character created by Anupam Sinha and published by Raj Comics. His first appearance was in Issue No 74, “Pratishodh Ki Jwala”. In the first story itself that Dhruva’s parents have been murdered by a villain named Jubisco and Dhruva in his rage of fury vows to take revenge and ultimately avenges his parents’ death by killing Jubisco. “Dhruva” is a Sanskrit name which means the center or axis, and that center remains constant irrespective of things going around. Dhruva is shown as a handsome young guy having a well toned muscular body. Unlike other comic heroes he does not posses much superpower. The only special power he has is the ability to comprehend the language of birds and animals, which can be attributed to the fact that he was born and brought up in Jupiter Circus and spend a lot of time with animals. The animals and bird are his major allies as they constantly report the crimes which take place in the fictional city of “Raj Nagar” where Dhruva lives with his foster family.

He is proficient in all major types or martial arts and is good in hand to hand combat. He has great analytic power which helps him in looking for clues at a crime scene and following and nabbing villains. On a number of occasions it is shown that he triumphed over villains more powerful than him by using his wits. He can also breathe under water after his friend Dhananjay gifted him this ability. Dhruva has vowed not to kill anyone so he usually disarm or disable his enemies by using any object found close to him. In the stories he is paired with other heroes, he is always the one who comes with ideas to counter the villains using the powers of other heroes wisely.

To prevent crime in the fictional city of “Raj Nagar” he patrols every night on his special motor cycle. Dhruva never uses disguise and is shown as wearing a yellow and blue colored dress. He heads a small team founded by himself, called “Commando Force”, which helps him in fighting crime in “Raj Nagar”. The other members of the team are Karim, Peter, and Renu.

Shweta who is his foster-sister and a science student helps Dhruva with technical aspect of fighting crime.

She has given him “Star Transmitter”, special boots which can become skates, and “Star Line” which is a rope which helps him in moving in the style of Batman. He also has “Star-Blades” which are blades in shapes of stars.
