The website is for adults as well as teenagers. It has its headquarters in Beverly Hills, California, USA where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, Fox Interactive Media. This fifth most popular website in English language and one of the top brands in the world, traces a history filled with public disputes along with deals on mergers which zeroed down to nothing and allegations.

Thomas “Tom” Anderson, is the President of this social networking website MySpace. Anderson is the man who is recognized as the founder of this site along with CEO Chris De Wolfe, but Brad Greenspan, the former Chairman, CEO and largest individual shareholder of Intermix Media, claims to be the true “founder of MySpace”.

Going back in time after the 2002 launch of Friendster several employees of eUniverse saw its potential and decided on the launch of a social networking website on similar lines and thus in August 2003, the first version of MySpace was ready for launch. According to its founder, “We followed Friendster’s launch and growth for several months when I decided that eUniverse would be in the social networking business. In the summer of 2003, as the CEO of eUniverse (and largest shareholder), I made the decision to use our technology, resources, and capital to launch Myspace.com, which debuted to the public on August 15, 2003”.

The original users of MySpace were eUniverse employees. The project was overseen by Brad Greenspan (eUniverse’s Founder, Chairman, CEO), who managed Chris DeWolfe (MySpace’s starting CEO), Josh Berman, Tom Anderson (MySpace’s starting president), and a team of programmers and resources provided by eUniverse. Coming from one of its founder’s mouth MySpace was 100% created and marketed by eUniverse, in 2003.The best talents of eUniverse were taken and infused into the MySpace team, many sharp minds have contributed to adding features and ideas to improve the functionality of the site. Merely six months old MySpace surpasses Friendster as the most trafficked social networking site.

This family of community websites has ultimately become worth tens of billions of dollars.
By February 2005, MySpace traffic started growing by 6% per week. It was during that time DeWolfe met Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to talk about merger, but Zuckerberg wanted $75 million, so the idea was dropped.
In June 2006 it became the most popular website of United States.

The 100 millionth account was created on August 6, 2006 in the Netherlands and the site counted approximately 106 million accounts on September 8, 2008.The company has more than 1600 employees. The site is currently available in 15 different languages.

This free social networking and micro blogging service which enables its users to share and read other user’s updates known as tweets, was founded in March 2006 by Obvious Group, with its Head quarters in California, U.S.A. This ten person start up has 29 employees as of now.

Coming from the Chairman Jack Dorsey’s mouth, it all started when at 18, he moved to New York City to attend NYU and began working at one of the biggest courier services in the country, DMS, where he continued working as a software developer, writing dispatch software. Jack was fascinated by the fact that all the users of this software – taxi drivers, limo drivers, couriers were really just reporting what they were doing, baring down essential facts only, thus the idea for Twitter was envisioned. In 2000, Jack launched his own company to dispatch couriers, taxis, and emergency services via the web. Over the next few years Jack continued working out his idea of fusing dispatch software, instant messaging, and text messaging to create real-time status communication, and in 2006 he approached San Francisco-based podcasting company ODEO, which was also interested in text messaging. It was there that he met Biz Stone and ODEO co-founder Evan Williams.

Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone spent just 2 weeks creating the first Twitter prototype and implemented it as an internal service for ODEO employees. They launched a full-scale version of Twitter in July of 2006. Three months later Biz, Evan, Jack and other members of the ODEO team formed Obvious Corporation, and acquired ODEO and all of its assets – including Odeo.com and Twitter.com – from the investors and other shareholders, and Twitter was spun off into its own company in 2007.

Twitter is all about tweets which is a form of SMS, or text based posts where users have to condense their sentiments in 140 words
In November 2008 a research estimated 4- 5 million twitter users. Since its inception in 2006, twitter has gained extensive notability and worldwide popularity. It is often described as the “SMS of Internet,” as the site provides the benefit of sending and receiving short text messages. Twitter continues to grow in importance and has gained popularity in both the consumer world and corporate world.

A February 2009 Compete.com blog entry ranks Twitter as the third most used social network after Facebook and MySpace. In March 2009, a Nielsen’s blog ranked Twitter as the fastest growing site in the Member Communities category for February 2009. Twitter had a growth of 1382%; Zimbio had a growth of 240%, followed by Facebook with a growth of 228%.

The key people of the Company are Jack Dorsey who is the Chairman, Evan Williams the CEO, and Biz Stone the Creative Director.

Wikipedia is a multilingual, free and an open content encyclopedia project which is operated by Non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia’s name is portmanteau of the terms wiki and encyclopedia. Wikipedia was launched in the year 2001 by Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales. At present, it is the largest, most popular and the fastest-growing common reference work accessible on the internet.

The free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia started as a corresponding project for Nupedia that have articles written and reviewed by the experts under an official process. On March 9, in the year 2000, Nupedia was founded under the rights of Bomis, Inc, a website company. Its chief figures were Larry Sanger, the editor-in-chief, Bomis CEO and Jimmy Wales for Nupedia and afterwards Wikipedia. For the year 2008, Wikipedia attracted around 683 million visitors reading more than ten million articles in over 253 languages which comprise a pooled total of about 1.74 billion terms for all Wikipedias. The Wikipedia of English edition passed 2,000,000 content marks on 9 September in the year 2007 and in the year 2008; it had more than 2,399,000 contents that consisted of around 1,034,000,000 terms. The articles in Wikipedia are written collaboratively by the volunteers throughout the world, and almost all the articles can be abbreviated by any Internet user. Due to the gradual rise in the popularity ever since its foundation, wikipedia presently ranks amid the top 10 most-visited websites internationally. The critics of Wikipedia aim its universal partiality and inconsistencies and its strategy of favoring the consensus over the certificate in its perspective process. Consequently, the modern admired icons with comparatively low overall impact are often more significantly featured than chronological figures with elevated global significance. Wikipedia’s accuracy and reliability have also been a major issue. The other criticisms are based on its inclination to vandalism. However, the scholarly work says that vandalism and these weaknesses are normally short-lived.

Wikipedia being a high quality encyclopedia reference, it has also received a lot of media consideration as an Internet basis of breaking news which is continuously updated. It has been recognized by the Time Magazine as the first particular Web 2.0 service available.

The Youtube is a website that shares videos. The users can view, upload and share the video clips. It was formed in the mid-February, 2005, by the 3 former PayPal workers. Youtube uses the Abode Flash technology to present a large variety of the user-generated video content that includes the movie clips, music videos, TV clips and the amateur substance like the videoblogging and the short unique videos.

The unregistered users of the Youtube can surf this website and watch mostly all the videos on this site, whereas the registered members are allowed to upload an unrestricted number of videos. Several videos are offered only to the users of 18 years or above. The uploading of the videos that contains nudity, pornography, harassment, defamation, material that contain criminal conduct and commercial advertisements is forbidden. The linked videos, determined by the tags and titles, come out to the right on the screen. In the 2nd year of the Youtube, many utility were added to develop the user’s aptitude to place the video responses and subscribe to the content feeds. Before the Youtube came, there were some very simple methods to post the videos online, but the launch and usage of the Youtube have made the posting and downloading very easy within minutes. Millions of people can see a similar video together within very few minutes without any hassle. The very wide variety of the topics enclosed by the Youtube has changed the video sharing amid the most significant parts of the internet culture.

In the year 2008, March, Youtube launched the High Quality version of the videos. It offers the leeway of better video definition for any file uploaded. Youtube will select on the videos which are competent of this improved version based on standard of original upload. Youtube is presently not gainful, with its profits being eminent as immaterial in a regulatory filing by Google. It is estimated that around 10 hours worth video are uploaded in every minute resulting in loss and low revenues. Even with the losses, Youtube have gained a lot of recognition in very less time and it is becoming more and more popular among the masses.

A Blog or web log is a term used for websites which keep the continuous chronicle or journal of information and display’s entries in reverse sequential order. A blog is frequently updated with entries of observations, commentary, event descriptions, or some other material like video or graphics. It is a form of personal diary maintained by an individual where he can write his thoughts. It often reflects the happening’s of the blogger’s life. A person’s blog is whatever he desires it to be. They don’t have to follow any rules and can be of any size or shape. Blogs may vary from personal to political and can concentrate on one small topic or a complete series of them.

The term weblog was coined by Jorn Barger and later abridged to blog by Peter Merholz. Initially blogs weren’t very popular. It was only in the year 1999 that blogs usage began to spread. Last few years has seen a great rise in popularity of blogs. There are currently more than 112 million blogs. Blogs are much more than only pages with links and texts. They reflect their owner’s personality and life. They are their owner’s interest, imagination ad wit. Everyone from students to celebrities has been bitten by the blog bug. This has happened because if offers a cheap and simple way for people with just the internet connection to be able to start a global publication for themselves. They have become so immensely popular that some large and popular web blogs attracts the volume of traffic which can create a feeling of jealousy even among the big websites. A very important part of blogs is the option for a reader to be able to leave his comments on the blog which can be read by other’s visiting it.

People often come up with some very important issues and events affecting our society on their blog and help generate awareness among people. They offer alternate voices that had never been heard before. Blogs have further had a big role in shaping, breaking, and revolving new stories. They have today become a medium of news spreading.

Till now the biggest concern for bloggers was the inadequate number of readers to read their blog, and without spending a good amount of money on advertising, achieving this was a distant dream for many. However, BlogRush solves this problem completely. All thanks to John Reese, the Internet entrepreneur who is the founder and CEO of Income.com a Florida based company that runs the BlogRush service.Â

Launched on 14th September 2007, the concept of BlogRush was devised so as to provide bloggers with a large number of readers to read their blog in a faster manner and that too free of cost. Although BlogRush is a free service, it intends to generate revenue through advertisements and partnership agreements. Apart from this, another source of generating revenue is by selling 10% of surplus credit
Blog Rush, a Cooperative Syndication Network is actually a network of blogs that runs a small widget on their pages. This widget or a small window contains a list and links of 5 blog post titles. Currently bloggers can choose from 13 different widget colors that are available.Â
Once a blogger loads his blog, his blog page will contain this widget. Bloggers will provide links related to blog content based on the category used and with the help of proprietary technology. Clicking on any of these links will take reader directly to the blog page so that they can read the entire post. But these links will open in a new browser window there by retaining the original blog window as well. Thus bloggers can show their blog on other bloggers network. Through this system of syndication credit blogger can there by earn maximum exposure to their blog.Â
Currently the BlogRush is only for English blogs, however in near future we plan to include foreign language blogs as well. Moreover in order to control the quality of blogs we are also planning to move to a 100% manual review process.
Â

Idolme.com is the brainchild of Stuart C. McHenry III, the President of Site Sift Media, Inc. The website was launched in May 2005 with a purpose of providing a platform for discussing and expressing opinions on music and reality shows. However today, the scope of this website has widened. Today idolme.com is just not a discussion forum for music, but it has become more of a social networking site where one can blog, post pictures, videos and comments to friends, or discuss on topics such as music, arts and entertainment etc

Along with its scope, Idolme.com has undergone major changes. In order to make the site more users friendly and appealing, the site design was changed in August 2007. Apart from this, the site has also introduced a new section, were one can get information about various music artists. Thus in this section one can find names, biographies, and other information of established as well as upcoming artists in the music industry such as Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and many more.
Due to the unique features of this website, numerous members from several parts of the world are becoming a part of Idolme.com, and this family is expected to grow further.

Many of you keep surfing the net in search of something interesting. It is not possible that you can find something interesting always. There is nothing to worry! There is a site which is satisfying the interest needs of many surfers. Stumbleupon.com is a fast growing site.Â
This site has a toolbar, which when clicked takes you to a new site. This toolbar is known as a mozilla toolbar. Every time you hit the stumble button, it takes you a site which many other stumblers have visited. Each site you stumble upon has to be rated by you. The site is not only is interesting but also has the element of surprise attached to it.
More than 2.1 million users are proud about using this site. Everyday there are many new members signing up for this surprisingly interesting trip. From 1.7 million users in the end of December 2006, it’s now up to 2.1 million stumblers. This should give you an idea about the attractiveness of this site.
Now, that they have video referrals too, the traffic in this site is bursting at its seams. The site boast of more than four million sites being visited by their users daily. The pages viewed in the US alone double nearly every other month. The popularity of this site has raised $1.5 million round seed financing.
This toolbar can be fed with all your preferences. Once it knows all your preferences and you hit the stumble button, it takes you to websites which match your interests. You can share your interests with many others. This brings in traffic into stumbleupon and also into other favorite sites.
This site brings in a lot of peer and social networking via recommendation. Garett Camp along with Geoff Smith and Justin LaFrance founded this company. When they were in post graduate school they thought of this idea and then started it. The popularity of this site attracted Brad O’Neill, investor in the Silicon Valley project. He then asked the company owners to come over to California. Garett believes that they began being recognized only after the site had half a million registered users.Â
The site has many filters which filter your interests and preferences. This then matches your choices with the interests of others. Once your preferences are set, it puts you in a virtual community with like minded people. As a stumbler you are given options to rate the site. You can select between the thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral sign to rate a website, photo, video, news article etc.Â
As an advertiser too, stumble helps you. If there is a virtual community for dog lovers and a number of people are viewing certain pictures or websites of dogs very often, stumble lets advertisers place their ads on those frequently visited pages. This brings in good response to the advertisement and good money to the site founders.
Stumbleupon launched another service called stumblethru. Here people can stumble through many pages or websites of other sites like The Onion. The craze of this site has been constantly pushing its founders to find more and innovative ways to satisfy the needs of their users.
Stumblers can join various communities, blogs or interest groups. Posting comments on their favorite topics brings many of their friends and strangers together.
If one click on a stumble button can open up a whole new world of interesting facts to you, why would you wait? This is the reason why so many people irrespective of their age are just signing up to experience all the fun and knowledge on this site. Don’t wait, just login and get your own stumble toolbar. Rate websites and don’t forget to tell your friends about the site.
Come lets all stumble on a new fun website together!Â
